Glastonbury 2007

We arrived Thursday afternoon to find nearly every single available camping spot taken, after walking around in the rain for nearly an hour we finally found a spot near the back of the festival facing the Other stage. We met up with some friends for a couple of drinks that night and got to bed reasonably early in preparation for the 3 days of non-stop music and partying. On the first day I caught Modest Mouse, The Automatic, Bloc Party, Rufus Wainwright and Arcade Fire. Modest Mouse was the pick of the day and put on a great set. We were a bit far away from the stage for Bloc Party but it still was a great performance.

On the second day I saw Dirty Pretty Things, Lilly Allen, Babyshambles, Maximo Park, The Editors and the Killers. We were right up close for Maximo Park which was fantastic, they were one of the best bands of the weekend. The Killers were disappointing because there was something wrong with the sound and we were pretty far back from the main Pyramid Stage. On the last day we saw the Enemy, Sunshine Underground, Cold War Kids, Dame Shirley Bassey, Manic Street Prechers, the Kaiser Cheifs, The Who and Chemical Brothers. We were only about five back from the front for Kasier Chiefs and they were definitely my pick for the best band of the festival. The Who and Chemical brothers also put on great shows to finish off the festival.

It wasn’t all about the bands though, it was also about the mud, agony, rain and tears. The whole place turned into a mud bath during the first day, there was ankle deep mud everywhere. To get to any stage was an effort, you couldn’t sit down or rest until you got back to the tent at then end of the night. There was plenty of food stalls and places to get a beer which was great, however getting to the toilet was hell. It was defiantly one of the best experiences since the start of the trip, finally getting to see all of my favorite bands in one place was just amazing. There will be more photos coming up soon.

The New Geoff Marsh

I would like to offer a motion that Sean become the resident Geoff Marsh of the Lawless family. After a steady innings at number 8 for his local cricket club Sean stood his ground with a 'more capable' batsman. He was the rock. His steady scoring rate of 11 runs in 31 overs makes him my nomination for the family Geoff Marsh - a renowed slow and steady batsman in an era long past. Who is with me?

Just a few pics from the Poker tour '06. For the record, Sean didn't have much money by the end of it!
